Some people like to claim that electronic descalers are pseudoscience. Well I can't really say I have noticed too much after using one myself. The average person only looks at what they can see. Sometime what you don't normally see is where it counts the most.

These are NOT water softeners. They do NOT remove minerals. Their purpose differs from the typical water treatment options. Descalers are more of an addition to water conditioning systems vs replacing them. If you want less dry skin, start with a whole house carbon filtration system first. Removing the chlorine from city water is more noticeable than the effects of an electronic descaler like this. And as a side note, I personally prefer to leave the minerals in the water as they are good for your health. Removing the minerals and replacing them with sodium via a typical "water softener" is less healthy.
