Here’s how to open a lock in less than a minute. For this task, you’ll need: a tension wrench to apply pressure to the lock mechanism and a pick to manipulate the pins. Insert the tension wrench into the bottom of the lock’s keyhole and gently apply pressure in the direction the lock opens. Next, insert the pick into the top of the keyhole and feel for the pins—small metal components inside the lock. Your goal is to identify the binding pin, which is currently blocking the lock’s mechanism.

Setting this pin to the correct position—the shear line—allows the mechanism to shift slightly and transfers resistance to the next pin. Once the binding pin is set, you’ll feel a click. To open the lock, you need to locate all the binding pins, which appear randomly, and set each one in the shear line. Once all the pins are in place, simply turn the tension wrench, and the lock will open.
