WHY DO FILIPINOS APPEAR POORER Than They Really Are?

Achieving a low cost of living and ideal lifestyle in the Philippines isn’t a guarantee, it’s a process.

I made this video to share my knowledge, tips, advice and secrets to succeeding in the Philippines and thriving here financially like a frugal Filipino. If you’re a frugal person moving to the Philippines, or just thinking about it, know that I made this video especially for you.

I used to be a poor struggling American living payday to payday, but that ended in 2018, because in 2017, I woke up to the realization that if I continued on like I was doing, I was going to be retiring in poverty. I had a dream job working for a great friend, but it took just about everything I was earning to survive. Sound familiar?

I could’ve stayed in the United States, continued believing that I’d eventually somehow achieve the American dream, but I was already 55, and believing that I’d someday achieve the American dream was starting to feel a lot like believing that I’d someday win the lottery.

Everything I earned in the U.S. had always gone towards surviving. I know this is true of a lot of Americans, not just the poor, but also those who look rich. The rich high society wannabes with the nice houses and cars who don’t really own them, but are rather up to their necks trying to pay them off while going deeper in debt.

I knew that my cost-of-living would be a lot less here in the Philippines, but with so much misinformation online, I had no clue just how low it was actually going to be. Having moved here on savings, I had to watch every penny. That’s how I started learning to live like a frugal Filipino, an important stage to succeeding here that a lot of foreigners miss out on because they move here with a lot of money and end up setting themselves up with a high cost of living off the bat, paying more for everything than what’s normal. Then they make YouTube videos claiming that what they’re paying is the basic cost of living here. It isn’t. If you do your research, you’ll see that their cost-of-living is only that, “their” cost-of-living. It is not the general cost-of-living here. My cost of living however, roughly about $250 a month, is a fairly standard cost of living here.

$250 could arguably be the lowest cost of living in the world, as for a comfortable lifestyle in a safe, friendly, English speaking country.

Did you know that the Philippines is officially a bilingual country? That’s right. English and Filipino are its official languages. I’ve never had to learn Filipino, because I rarely run into anyone who doesn’t speak English.

After paying my bills each month, I always have a lot of money left over to save, invest, and enjoy more of what life has to offer. That is the way it should be for all hard-working Americans, but unfortunately, for many, it’s not.

My honest opinion is that America is way too expensive- way overpriced for whatyou get. That’s why I moved here and why the low cost of living that’s possible here is what I love most about living here, although the friendly people and overall safety rate super high on my list as well.

I’m living my dream life here, enjoying a vibrant social life, eating healthy, and living in my own gorgeous $70 a month apartment. No roommates!
