Merigar - the Temple of the Great Contemplation

Literally translated, Merigar means “the encampment on the mountain of fire” and symbolically connotes a place of energy. Situated near the town of Arcidosso and the province of Grosseto, Merigar is situated in an idyllic upland setting in southern Tuscany.

It is immersed in nature, surrounded by the beech and chestnut forests of Monte Amiata and Monte Labbro and bordered by a large nature preserve.

Established under the guidance of Tibetan master Chögyal Namkhai Norbu in 1981, Merigar is an important destination for people interested in the study and practice of Dzogchen, one of the most ancient teachings in the Tibetan spiritual tradition.
