Samantha worked part-time on modeling assignments. She soon received offers for film roles and made her acting debut in Gautham Menon's critically acclaimed Telugu romance film, Ye Maaya Chesave which fetched her the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Actress and a Nandi Award. Samantha then became the second actress ever to win both the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actress and the Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress in the same year, for her performances in the films Neethaane En Ponvasantham (2012) and Eega (2012). Since then, she has primarily opted to appear in the leading female role in hero-centric Telugu and Tamil films.

Nandini Reddy was introduced to Gangaraju Gunnam through a mutual friend and in 1995 she worked on his children's movie Little Soldiers as an Assistant Director. After that film was released, cinematographer Rasool Ellore introduced her to Krishna Vamsi, who refused at the time to take her into his team. Actress Ramya Krishnan then persuaded Vamsi to take her for his next project, Chandralekha. She became an integral part of Vamsi's team up to and including the filming of Shakti, a Hindi remake of Anthahpuram.

Chinmayi participated and won the singing contest of Sun TV, Saptasawarangal, following which she was introduced by Singer Srinivas to film composer A. R. Rahman. Chinmayi's playback singing career began with her performance of Rahman's "Oru Dheivam Thanta Poove" for the film Kannathil Muthamittal. After a couple of years of singing exclusively for Tamil, Telugu, Tulu and Malayalam films, she made her Bollywood debut in Mangal Pandey: The Rising with the song "Holi Re".
