Is Minecraft A Game?

That's right, it's one of THOSE videos.

Something I should clarify that I didn't get a chance to in the video - I haven't played Minecraft myself that much lately! There's been a few big patches since the last time I was consistently playing Minecraft but even if they've dramatically changed things I talk about in the video, I don't feel like it really hurts my points because a lot of the things I say in this video pertain to Minecraft at numerous different points in its lifespan, and not just what it is today.

Fun fact, the reason "Homo Ludens" was CALLED "Homo Ludens" is because Ludens translates roughly in Latin to "playing". While humans have been known for a long time as homo sapiens, (which translates roughly in Latin to "wise man") Johan Huizinga suggested that perhaps we are not just homo sapiens, but also homo ludens. The name "homo sapien" suggests that our defining trait is our intelligence and perhaps our "wisdom" whereas the title "homo ludens" suggests that we can be just as defined by our inherent understanding of play as outlined in the video.
