Your Computer Has Never Read a Single Word
Your computer has never actually read a single word you've typed. Not one. Every message, every search, every prompt you've ever sent to an AI was secretly converted into hundreds of numbers before the machine would even look at it.
And once you understand why, the way you think about artificial intelligence will never be the same.
In this video, we break down one of the most fascinating and least talked about ideas in modern AI: word embeddings. This is the hidden layer between human language and machine intelligence, and it turns out to be far stranger and more beautiful than most people realize.
Here's the short version. Silicon chips cannot process words. They cannot do math on shapes. So engineers built a workaround where every single word gets transformed into a list of around 768 numbers, placing it as a coordinate on a massive map of meaning. On that map, "king" lives near "queen" and "throne." "Banana" is across town near "fruit" and "tropical." The machine never learns what a king actually is. It just learns where the word lives, and which words tend to live nearby.
But here is where it gets genuinely mind-bending.
You can do arithmetic on this map. King minus man plus woman lands you almost exactly on queen. Nobody programmed that relationship in. It emerged on its own from the geometry of the data.
That discovery stunned researchers when they first found it.
This video explains the whole thing from scratch, no math degree required. If you have ever wondered how AI actually processes language under the hood, this is where the story starts.
