Florida’s broken mental health system strikes again
🚨 Florida Promised Mental Health Reform. Families Say the System Still Fails.

A new investigation out of Florida highlights a painful reality many families already know:
People suffering from serious mental illness are still cycling through jails instead of receiving meaningful treatment.
In this case, a Florida man diagnosed with bipolar disorder reportedly experienced repeated mental health crises that escalated into arrests, warrants, and incarceration—despite his family actively trying to get him help.
The article also raises an issue we see every day:
👉 Families call for help during a psychiatric crisis…
👉 Law enforcement responds…
👉 And what begins as a mental health emergency can quickly become a criminal case.
Florida recently passed the Tristin Murphy Act in an effort to improve mental health diversion and treatment options. But as this story demonstrates, laws alone do not guarantee real-world intervention or long-term recovery support.
Here’s the reality:
⚠️ The Baker Act is not long-term treatment.
⚠️ Jails are not mental health facilities.
⚠️ Without structured intervention, people often cycle between hospitals, arrests, treatment centers, homelessness, and incarceration.
Families should not have to navigate these crises alone.
Legal intervention tools—including the Baker Act, Marchman Act, and Guardianship—can sometimes create a pathway toward stabilization, treatment, and long-term recovery when traditional efforts have failed.
