Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) & the relation to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) is the presence of excessive bacteria in the small intestine. SIBO is frequently implicated as the cause of malabsorption chronic diarrhea in addition to Intestinal Permeability (Leaky Gut).

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is the most common GI disorder which is the cause of 2.4-3.5 million annual patient visits. Recent research has shown that up to 84% of those with an IBS diagnosis test positive for SIBO.
