The 4th typhoon in a month finished off the Philippines: People lost everything
Reviews of weather events, natural disasters, astronomical phenomena and wildlife around the world
The Philippines has been hit by a fourth typhoon in a month. Thousands of people have been evacuated, more than 160 have died. Ferry service and domestic flights between the islands have been suspended.
Typhoon Toraji, which originated in the eastern sea, has hit the Philippines. Toraji is its international name, in the Philippines this typhoon is called Nika. At the time of landfall, the wind speed reached 130 km / h, and the height of the storm waves was up to 5 meters.
This is the fourth blow for the island country in the last 30 days. Torrential rains brought by the typhoon caused extensive flooding. In the last 24 hours alone, almost two months' worth of rain fell. Thousands of houses were damaged, tens of thousands of trees were felled, and agricultural lands were destroyed. In total, the bad weather affected more than nine million people.
"I can't sleep. I don't understand why this disaster has come to us. We are still stressed and don't know what to do now," a local resident admitted.
Schools and offices are closed, ferry services and domestic flights have been cancelled. The day before, authorities forcibly evacuated 2,500 villages. Tens of thousands of people are already in temporary shelters.
"If we haven't come to you yet, try to stay safe and listen to your local authorities. They will tell you what to do. Then the national government will get involved," said Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The typhoon has now weakened to a tropical storm and moved to the South China Sea. But meteorologists cannot give good forecasts. Once again, they are warning Filipinos about squally winds and more rain.
Because another storm has already formed in the Pacific Ocean. In the near future, it may develop into a typhoon and hit the Philippines in just 2 days.
