JSW School of Law (English)

His Majesty, understanding the importance of a just and content society based on the rule of law, envisioned the establishment of a Law School, as a means to this objective. In 2015, His Majesty the King granted a Royal Charter which gave birth to the first and only law school in Bhutan: Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law (JSW Law). His Majesty the King established the School in honour of His Majesty the Fourth King- the author of GNH, father of Bhutan’s Consitution and democracy, and above all, the Nation’s Conscience.

JSW Law opened its door to the first cohort of students in 2017, the Inaugural Class of 2022. Starting from humble beginnings in Thimphu and working up from ground zero, JSW Law has now successfully built a truly unique green campus in Pangbisa, Paro. JSW Law has a curriculum that is unique among law schools across the world, which is organic and well-rounded reflecting Bhutanese traditional values while having a global character.

At present, JSW Law has five cohorts of 100 undergraduate students, and 14 PGDNL students. In justice, service and wisdom, JSW Law with its unique curriculum, strives to set the standard and lead the way in education, research, and good practices in the fields of law, GNH, and sustainability.

To celebrate the occasion of the successful completion of the campus, the school plans to hold a rabney ceremony on 5 October 2023, to express their gratitude to Their Majesties the Kings and seek blessings.
