His mixed raced origins, clearly visible in his facial skin, were always a sore point, though it is perhaps why Marley had such a resilient personality.

4. Too Good - Outrageous though it may seem, Marley was once sacked for being too talented and charismatic a musician. In 1973, Sly Stone invited Marley and the Wailers on a 17 date tour around the US. But Sly decided to dismiss his opening act only after four shows, since they were drawing in all the attention from crowds, leaving the headliners out in the cold. They played five shows together - two in Florida, as well as Kentucky, Colorado, and Las Vegas - where Sly left them and their luggage on the side of the road.

5. Mr. World - While Marley is revered around the globe and has officially fathered eleven children, there is another reason while Marley can be considered Mr World. 8. Greatest Reggae star of all time - Bob Marley and the Wailers’s album Legend is the best-selling reggae album of all-time with over 15 million copies sold in the United States and an estimated 25 million copies sold globally. The album was ranked number 46 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. As of today it has spent a total of 348 non consecutive weeks on the Billboard album chart - the fourth longest run in history.

9. Greatest friend - Vincent Ford, Marley’s friend who ran a soup kitchen in Trenchtown, the main ghetto in Kingston, Jamaica (where they grew up together), is listed as the composer of the song, ‘No Woman, No Cry’. Marley attributed the songwriting credits to Ford, in an unprecedented act of generosity, ensuring the survival and continual running of his soup kitchen through the royalty cheques until Fords death in 2008.

10. Devout believer - Bob Marley once injured the toenail of his right big toe during a football game, and the wound had trouble healing properly. Eventually, a malignant melanoma was discovered – a dangerous type of cancer – and although doctors recommended that it be amputated, he refused on religious grounds. Marley was a devout Rastafari believer. The tumour then spread, which ultimately caused his death.
