Maskne is acne caused by wearing a face covering. Mask acne are blemishes that are caused by friction, rubbing, and occlusion of the skin’s by outside forces. This is called acne mechanica. Face masks trap humidity, dirt, oil, and sweat. The mask then creates friction and irritation on our skin’s surface, creating micro-tears, allowing easier entry for bacteria and dirt to enter the skin; leading to inflammation which activates the acne process. acne that is caused by wearing a face mask.
