LAKE ELLIS | CHOGORIA ROUTE, MT KENYA

Lake Ellis is 1 of the 5 Glacier Lakes located on the eastern slopes of Mt Kenya at 3,455m above sea level. The landscape is absolutely breathtaking. You can choose to hike to the Lake from Chogoria Gate, or drive there like we did. The road is off-road, very rocky and the drive is pretty rough. The hike is about 18 km in total and it takes around 4 hours 30 minutes to hike to the lake and back.

Mt Kenya is home to five glacial lakes, Lake Ellis, Lake Michaelson, Lake Rutundu, Lake Alice and Lake Hohnel. Chogoria route, used to climb up Mt Kenya is the most scenic.
