How race issues impact athletes' public perception

Athletes are often under intense scrutiny by the public when they compete on a national stage. This attention can have benefits for their career, but it also is an opportunity for the public to demonize these individuals. Watch Nicholas Villanueva, an associate Professor of Ethnic Studies here at CU Boulder, talk about a specific example of this with Gabby Douglas that occurred at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
