Étude #7: Diminished Scales

This étude started with an idea to use only the notes of the diminished scale in a contrary motion concept, but it expanded a bit from there... The LH builds chords off of each descending step of the scale, starting with a single note and expanding the chord outwards on both sides. After this, the LH chords descend stepwise (every note in the chord moves down one step in the scale), resulting in some very interesting sounds via inverted triads - or they could be considered 7th chords if you include the 7th found in the RH.
We end up on a dominant 7th chord that serves as a tritone sub for the new root that follows. Also, each hand lands on a note a half step away from the next root, the LH a half step above and the RH a half step below. Then there is a two measure coda exploring dominant relationships and side stepping.

This étude includes an ending, or you can opt to continue the pattern and explore how the three diminished scales feel starting on the remaining nine notes.
