If you listen closely, you'll notice on the take with no background music, I actually recorded it twice - a common technique used by guitarists (think Randy Rhodes for one) to "thicken" up the sound. But you actually have to play it twice so there are some minute differences. You can somewhat thicken up the sound with a quick delay, but not as much as there are no true differences. For example, in the bends there are obviously more chances for minute differences to come through.
