Check http://bdancewear.com for all the dancewear featured in this episode.

In this guide, you will learn how to create a unique look of straps. You can take any sports bra that you have, or an halter bra. For the straps, you can use the same fabric or a different one and jazz it up by doing this technique with the straps. This is a great video if you are looking for something fun, and sassy to do to your top.

Supplies:
1. Dance Top
2. Elastic
3. Scissors
4. Pins
5. Marker
6. Fabric
Directions:

1. Decide The Length of Straps and Cut

On this particular top, I would say put it on the girl. Don’t use the sharpie because, I am just using it so you can see the marks. Decide where you want the straps to start. I am going to mark on the elastic piece room for the seam allowance. So I am placing it now where I want the straps to start giving it seam allowance. You can pin it if you want. So bring the piece around the shoulders making sure it is nice and snug and mark the other side. Now that you have measured around the shoulders and took measurements of the elastic, cut it out. The next piece, we want to give seam allowance as well and crisscross it from one side of the front shoulder to the back. With the last elastic you did, we want two of exactly like this, so use its measurement to cut out another piece of elastic. With this, I used ¾ of an inch elastic so I give a ¼ of inch seam allowance but it is going to be folded over. So we are going to take the fabric making sure the fold it in half and make sure it is even all around. Now cut 3 pieces of 2 inches in width out of the fabric.

2. Put Elastic in Fabric and Sew Down Straps

Fold the strip in half making sure the side you want to see if facing inwards. Making sure to back-stitch the beginning and the end. I am not using pins, but you might want to in case it twists then it will look funny. With the piece, flip it inside out. You can do it with a safety pin if you don’t have the right tool. Put the matching elastic piece in the fabric. The first strap I am doing is the crisscross piece. Pin the piece to the top making sure the seam is on the back side. Then pin the one that goes around the neck. Hold up the pieces to make sure that is where you want the pieces to be sewn. Once you have decided, sew down where you made the line. I am also going to top-stitch it down for extra strength. Trim the edges, and any threads. Do the same with the other strap to the other side.
