On June 5, 2006, then-state Senate President Ben Stevens placed a phone call to VECO chief executive Bill Allen, the oilman then at the center of Alaskas blossoming political corruption scandal.

The transcript of that call, released as part of a recent filing in the ongoing corruption proceedings of convicted former legislator Vic Kohring, provides a unique glimpse into the backroom dealings of Alaska oil politics at the beginning of the 21st century.
