Pigeon training

Basket exercising, this spot sits right above Wasilla Lake, I like releasing from this spot as an exercise for beginners and for old birds as an exercise, because it’s a wide open area. This area is basically down town Wasilla, the pigeons can see the mountains from this location and know exactly what direction to fly inorder to get home quickly. Plus the lake is a breaking point for many of the pigeons flying home. They familiarize themselves with the lakes and mountains and knows exactly what direction to fly. It’s good to familiarize your pigeons with the 5mile radius of their home loft during the beginning of training, that way if they over fly and fly past their loft, they can make u-turns to get home. Once they have learned to get home from that 5 mile radius. They can be flown from the direction that you are going to start increasing distance. For our pigeons, i’ve taught them the 15 mile radius just to make sure if they over fly into any other direction, they know how to turn back. If they are going to fly from vast distances they had never flown from, they will be flying very high up and flying in from any direction, so it is important to teach them to familiarize atleast 5-10 miles radius around their loft.
