UK IMMIGRATION UPDATES FOR INDIAN STUDENTS #migrationsupport

1. Increased Financial Requirements
Effective January 2025, the UK government has raised the maintenance funds requirement by 11% to reflect rising living costs:

London: £1,483 per month (~₹1.62 lakh)
Outside London: £1,136 per month (~₹1.24 lakh)

For a 9-month course, this translates to:

London: £13,347 (~₹14.65 lakh)
Outside London: £10,224 (~₹11.23 lakh)

These funds must be held for 28 consecutive days before the visa application.

2. Visa Fee and Health Surcharge Increases
Student Visa Application Fee: Increased to £490 (~₹53,700).

Immigration Health Surcharge: Raised to £1,035 per year (~₹1.13 lakh).

3. Restrictions on Dependents
As of January 2025, international students (except those enrolled in postgraduate research programs) are no longer permitted to bring dependents (spouse or children) to the UK.

4. Graduate Route Visa Remains Unchanged
The Graduate Route visa, allowing international graduates to stay and work in the UK for two years (three years for PhD graduates), remains unchanged. In 2024, nearly half of all Graduate Route extensions were granted to Indian nationals.

5. Potential Policy Changes Under Review
The Labour government has proposed several immigration reforms, including:

1. Raising visa qualifications to a degree level.
2. Reducing post-study stay to 18 months.
3. Doubling the period for obtaining settled status from five to ten years.
