HOI AN VIETNAM without any tourists | Vietnam after the lockdown

Hoi An Vietnam is normally teeming with tourists. This beautiful historic town is a must see for anyone visiting Vietnam due to its gorgeous colonial architecture, perfect climate and amazing food. The downside is that this popularity means that its streets are usually packed with people from all over the world buying souvenirs and taking photos of the latern-lined streets and waterways.

As Vietnam begins to open up after the lockdown, we were able to travel to Hoi An to have a truly authentic experience. Vietnam is still closed to foreigners and nobody knows when international tourists will be allowed to enter the country. This means that this UNESCO world heritage site is almost completely empty. We were able to experience a truly Vietnamese town, without the tourist-traps.

Hoi an is known for its high-quality bespoke tailoring and tourists come to buy suits and traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai. These tailors are all closed now as foreigners are not allowed to visit. We spoke to some people in the tourist industry about how Vietnam has been affected by the lockdown and closed borders across the world.

Vietnam has been one of the least affected countries in this pandemic and through swift action, the lockdown here has been lifted and life can begin to return to normal. Unfortunately, the Vietnamese travel industry will continue to struggle for some time to come.
