Genesis Walkthrough 8/8 - DBT Engineering Blueprint

Turn source-to-target mappings into a full dbt project—automatically, with a new mission.
In this episode, we pick up right after completing the source-to-target mapping mission. That mission didn’t create any schemas—it only generated reusable mappings. Now we launch a new mission using the dbt Engineering blueprint. This blueprint is designed to look at an existing mission, pull in its documents, and generate a complete dbt project (models and files) for loading data into our target Snowflake database.

You’ll see how to select the dbt blueprint, start the mission with Eve, provide the previous mission name as input, and let Eve use all those mapping artifacts to create the dbt project and all the files needed to actually load the data.

You’ll learn
- Why the first mission stops at mappings (no schemas) and how that sets up multi-environment use
- How to choose the dbt Engineering blueprint from the Genesis blueprint library
- How this blueprint consumes a prior mission as its feed (via mission name + repo)
- How Eve uses mapping docs to build a dbt project and files for loading into Snowflake
- How mission chaining lets you separate design (mapping) from implementation (dbt)

Who it’s for: data engineers, analytics engineers, and platform teams who want automated handoffs from mapping → dbt → Snowflake without manual boilerplate.

⏱️ Chapters
00:00 Recap: source-to-target mapping mission completed
00:05 Mission created mappings, not schemas
00:17 Confirming the mapping mission is marked complete
00:21 Opening the blueprint library
00:25 Selecting the dbt Engineering blueprint
00:31 Starting the new mission
00:37 How this mission uses existing missions as input
00:42 Assigning the mission to Eve and creating it
00:48 Back in Mission Control: new active mission view
00:59 Pointing the mission at the repo it needs
01:05 Supplying the prior mission name as input
01:13 Using all documents from that mission as the feed
01:20 Generating the dbt project & files to load into Snowflake

Key takeaways
1. Use one mission to design mappings, and a second, dbt-focused mission to implement them.
2. The dbt Engineering blueprint can reuse documents from any prior mission as its source of truth.
3. This pattern gives you a clean, automated path from S2T mapping → dbt project → Snowflake load.
