PHYSICS: I discovered why my laptop bag set off security alarms at some retail stores.

Some security tag sensors use a magnetic principle of induction. It’s the same detection one the street when you drive over the sensor to change the traffic lights.

These sensor tags have perfectly circular coils of copper and disrupt/steer the magnetic field which cause the detecting field to register the change - these systems then trigger the alarm.

In my case. It was simply a circle of copper inside the loop of Ethernet patch cabling.
