BETTE DAVIS "WHITE MAMA" 1980 (1/11)

In the last years of her life, Bette Davis spoke lovingly of her Emmy-nominated performance in White Mama, a favorite of her latter-day films, and considered it part of her Silver Age of films in the late 1970s and early 1980s. During this period, which included 1979s Emmy-winning performance in Strangers: The Story of a Mother And Daughter opposite Gena Rowlands and 1983s Right of Way, for which she and co-star Jimmy Stewart received Cable ACE Nominations, Miss Davis felt that she was being afforded better scripts than she had been since her Warner Bros. Golden Age. This period produced a small but ever-watchable cluster of films which gave Bette a platform to expand the horizons of womens possibilities on film over the age of seventy while introducing a new generation to her mastery of the acting craft.
In honor of the New Year, New Decade, and this films 30th Anniversary, I hope you will cherish my personal favorite of Miss Daviss last films.
