GSL Ningbo delayed departure from Felixstowe Trinity 7. Two 3212 Svitzer tugs assist 28th July 2021

GSL Ningbo 10.95 metres draught for Hamburg. Cargo operations overran which meant she was delayed by an hour but with a few moves to go, the two Svitzer tugs make a slow paddle up to Trinity 7 to assist. Svitzer Kent makes fast centre lead aft and the Svitzer Deben makes fast centre lead forward. wind on the Landguard WSW 246° 16-20 knots. Tide on the Harwich gauge 1.77 metres 7 centimetres above prediction.

Once the tugs were fast, the pilot radios Harwich VTS to say they were singling up ready for departure from Felixstowe Trinity 7 with draught of 10.95 metres for a
Hamburg, working channel 12 with the tugs and then asks for permission to break away. Permission granted, the springs were released and both tugs begin to pull off the berth at 50% with Deben increasing to 75% to help swing the bow into the harbour.

As the pilot runs the engine ahead, Deben eases and moves right ahead but is kept so until they are clear of the boomed down crane. Clear of the crane, Deben comes in to let go from forward. Once clear they hang around Trinity 3 area for their next work. As the headway builds on the GSL Ningbo, the pilot gets the Kent to close up to the transom to let go from aft. Once clear, they head back to the tug pontoon to wait for their next job MSC Jade which was inbound approaching the Walker Buoy.
