Present Simple Form Sentences In English - How To Learn English Fast
In this video you will learn about Form of Present Simple (affirmative)
The present simple tense is formed, in the affirmative:
Subject + verb + object.
I + run + fast.
I run fast.
Conjugating the Present Simple (affirmative):
I run fast
You run fast
He/She runs fast
We run fast
They run fast
Even though the differences between first-person (I) and third-person (he/she) in the present simple are not big, they are very important. The -s at the end of the third-person conjugation is extremely important. Similarly, it would be incorrect to say I plays basketball in university.
Forming the Present Simple (negative)
The present simple tense is formed, in the negative, as follows
Subject + do + not + verb + object.
John + does + not + enjoy + dentist.
John does not enjoy dentist.
Conjugating the Present Simple (negative):
I do not enjoy dentist
You do not enjoy dentist
He/She does not enjoy dentist
We do not enjoy dentist
They do not enjoy dentist
The negative form of this tense is formed by pairing the main verb (enjoy in the case of the above example) with the auxiliary verb do in its negative form. As is made clear in the video, we can combine the two components of the negative form of this verb in a contraction, making the entire sentence flow more easily and allowing for more fluid conversation in spoken English. The changes made in the contraction are as follows:
do not ⇒ don’t
does not ⇒ doesn’t
Therefore, our conjugation for the present simple (negative) should become
I don’t enjoy dentist
You don’t enjoy dentist
He/She doesn’t enjoy dentist
We don’t enjoy dentist
They don’t enjoy dentist
Forming the Present Simple (interrogative)
The present simple tense is formed, in the interrogative, as follows
Do + subject + verb + object
Do + you + like + chocolate
Do you like chocolate?
Example of Present Simple (interrogative):
Do I like chocolate?
Do you like chocolate?
Does he/she likes chocolate?
Do we like chocolate?
Do they like chocolate?
Note: It is important here to note the difference in punctuation. The question mark (?) is equally as important as the grammatical structure in marking the phrase as interrogative in written English.
