Shuriken / throwing stars - Why are they banned?

Another pointless, unreasonable weapon ban. Why are "ninja stars" banned when darts and throwing knives are not? Who thought it was a good idea to make a recreational sports tool and collector's item illegal in a number of countries, when it's not even lethal by design?

Lawmakers should stop basing their decisions on fearmongering and instead try to understand an item and its usage before restricting the freedom of law-abiding citizens.
