The United States averted a government shutdown on September 30, after President Joe Biden signed a short-term funding bill passed by Congress. But the bill put Kevin McCarthy's House speakership on the line as hardline conservatives voted to oust him because he relied on Democratic votes. CGTN spoke with The Hill's staff writer Rafael Bernal. He said McCarthy's fate was sealed when he decided to pass the bill with Democratic support.
