Functional & Colorful: Small Living Room Ideas - IKEA Home Tour

In this special edition of IKEA Home Tour Series, the Squad visits Courtney, the lifestyle blogger from ColorMeCourtney.com. Courtney lives in New York and has a larger living room than you might expect. As a result, Courtney is struggling to fill the space, leaving her living room to feel a bit too clean and modern. This is not in line with her more eclectic Bohemian and - ahem - colorful sensibilities. Courtney wants a living room makeover that not only fills and organizes her space but also reflects her personality by adding color that complements her lifestyle. The Home Tour Squad took this challenge and upped the ante by promising to give Courtney a living room makeover in the span of a day, adding personality, character and function.

The showstopper in Courtney's living room is the BILLY / OXBERG bookcase. The Squad chose to add the glass panels so Courtney could use some wrapping paper to trim and fit within the cabinet door. Now, Courtney has rainbow bookcase cabinets, flooding the room with color. And although Courtney used wrapping paper, this is a piece that can grow with her as she could easily use fabric or wall paper inserts as well to change the entire look and feel. The glass doors can also be kept clear to display personal collections while keeping your space organized and uncluttered. The BILLY / OXBERG bookcase also enabled Courtney to put many of her knickknacks on display, adding to her living room wall decor.

For Courtney's computer desk, the Squad added a VITTSJO laptop table which fits snugly between two of her BILLY / OXBERG bookcases. The laptop table has plenty of space for her essentials. Above her desktop computer, the Squad added a MYRHEDEN frame so she can clip pictures, cards, keychains and delicate knick-knacks. These keep Courtney inspired and feeling at home. The Squad completed the area with a HATTEFJALL swivel chair which also brings a pop of color to the space.

As the finishing touch, the NYMO lamp shades help to bridge Courtney's colorful aesthetic with modern lifestyle. The NYMO lamp shades feature a golden interior and a patterned shade providing visual point of interest, but not drawing attention away from the space as a whole.
