Endoplasmic Reticulum structure and functions in Urdu/hindi. 9th and FSC 1st biology lecture

Endoplasmic reticulum is an important organelle in eukaryotic cell. ( The word endoplasmic means 'within the cytoplasm' and reticulum means Little ne or network)
The ER consist of network of membranous tubules and sacs called cisternae. The space inside the cisternaeis called cisternal space or Lumen.
Chemically ER composed of Protein, Lipisds and little amount of cholesterol which is also a type of lipid.
There are two types of ER that differ in structure and function.
Smooth ER named so because it lacks ribosomes on its surface. While Rough Er is studded with ribosomes on its surface.
Functions of ER are the synthesis of lipids i.e. Phospholipids and cholesterol, Detoxification of drugs, Storage of Calcium, Production of Harmones (steroids), synthesis of Protein and transport of materials.
