The link on your Google search might be a scam
🚨 The first link on your Google search might be the most dangerous one on the page.
Scammers are paying for Google ads to put fake websites at the very top of search results, above the real ones. 👀
They target everyday questions like “why is my printer offline” or “how to check free space on Mac.” The fake sites copy Apple, Microsoft, and other trusted brands. Logos, layouts, everything.
Some of these ads show what looks like the real web address, but might be a lookalike domain that are one letter off or have an extra symbol. The goal is to get you to click before you look closely.
One fake page recently racked up around 21,000 visits before it was taken down.
How to protect yourself:
✅ Skip anything labeled “Sponsored” at the top of results
✅ Take an extra second to verify the URL
✅ Bookmark the sites you use most and type the URL yourself
✅ For software downloads, go straight to the company’s website
✅ Never paste a terminal command from a random website
✅ If a site asks you to copy something into your terminal, close the tab
Send this to one person who Googles for tech help. It’s exactly the kind of thing scammers count on people not knowing.🫡
