NAUTICAL STYLE STUDIO MAKE OVER

Finally, after many years of preparation, I turned my cellar into a studio for my parents to live in, when they visit me in Greece.
I started really from scratch, there was no ceiling, no floor, no door.
We started focusing on the layout, so we decided where to place the bathroom first, and our choice was driven by a sort of fake window in the stone wall: we smashed it open, and made it real.
After the bathroom, all the other spaces came in a logical order: the bedroom outside the bathroom and the kitchenette next to the main entrance.
Since we are in Greece, I decided to give a nautical touch to the decor pieces: I placed a wall hanging boat over the headboard, I used nautical knobs in the rustic barndoor that we built, I replaced the kitchen handles with twine ones, I chose light fixtures that you could find in a ship and I played with the grey and blue tones.
Everything has been quite cheap, because I reused many furnitures that I already had, just with a new twist. The kitchen was our old one cut to size, the closet was a shelf that I revamped and turned into an exposed wardrobe, the bathroom door has been made simply by pieces of wood stuck together and a mechanism (so easy to create a barndoor from scratch), the bedsidetable was my husband's stained in a new color and the puff was a broken one that I restored.
Of course I had a professional help for tiles, bathroom sanitaries and the installation of the door and window, but for the rest, everything has been made by my husband and I.
I am obsessed by the result! It is extreamly cozy! I think that the final touch has been given by the hanging plants (pilea and pothos) and also by my custumed double rod curtains: one is the simple white curtain for privacy and the second one are shades.
