The penalties for No Insurance can be found in section 2(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. Bottom line, the penalties are severe. You can see the penalties as they are in the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.

Here is a summary of the penalties for No Insurance in Ontario.
Minimum $5000 fine (plus costs) for a first offence – Upon conviction, you will be sentenced to fines totally $5000 plus court costs of 25% for a total of $6,250. It does not matter if this penalty is too high for you to afford. It’s a minimum fine of $5000. No exceptions.

The Prosecutor will typically seek a much higher fine when you have multiple prior convictions of No Insurance. With each future conviction, the Prosecutor will seek additional fines. Up to $5000 or more for each conviction.
