Cape May Seashore Lines Motorcar Ride (Unedited)
Filmed October 28, 2017
This past weekend the Volunteer Railroad Association of Hawthorne, New Jersey ran railroad motorcars on the Cape May Seashore Lines tracks between Cape May Terminal and the Cape May Canal swing bridge. This line has not seen a full sized train rolling down it for several years primarily due to vandalism of the line in 2012.
I made my way down to Cape May that day via the NJ Transit Atlantic City Line and switched to the 552 bus route to get to Cape May from the train's terminal in Atlantic City. The bus took a good two hours to get from AC to Cape May, which was kind of ridiculous considering the train traveled a greater distance in 45 minutes.
It has been my lifelong goal to restore full train service from Philadelphia 30th Street to Cape May and other points on the South Jersey Shore, and I very much want to support the Cape May Seashore Lines in any way possible.
So after engaging in some wonderful conversations with the crew of VRRA and CMSL and offering to volunteer, I was offered the opportunity to get the last ride of the day for free and ride in the "locomotive" of the miniature train.
Many thanks to VRAA and CMSL for this wonderful experience! I would be honored to volunteer for you!
