Some vocabulary to help in the dialogue of "loc envy."

𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗼𝘂𝘀𝘆 - The fear of losing something that you feel already belongs to you.
𝗖𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 - The desire of that which is not yours and currently unattainable as it belongs to someone else or lies outside your ability to get.
𝗘𝗻𝘃𝘆 - The desire of that which is not yours and the hatred of the person who actually possesses it.

Based on the above the term "loc envy" is for most of us a misnomer, in that when we see someone with a set of locs we wish we had, we don't often hate the person that has them. It's more befitting to refer to that all too familiar feeling as covetousness.

In this video, I discuss how coveting was very personally costly to me. Covetousness is a thing God commands us to not engage in and yet it's really easy to fall into. God in His grace taught me just how costly coveting can be while sparing me from serious consequences. I allowed loc envy (better said, coveting) to cultivate a seed a dissatisfaction with my locs that contributed to my decision to cut them off. Now, that's a set of locs Ill never get back. Fortunately, I can start anew, but not all of life is like that. Sometimes we can't just start again. Sometimes we just have to make peace with the consequences of our covetousness and it isn't an easy road to walk. Learn from my mistake if you can.
