The fourth episode of season 5 of the Expanse took things to another level in the Free Navy’s campaign to attack the Inner Planets. The radical faction of the OPA led by Marco Inaros (Keon Alexander) followed up their first asteroid hit on Earth with two more successful impacts. The first rock hit near Dakar, the second near Philadelphia, and the third in South Asia. Marco also coordinated an attack on Mars' parliament building, and Tycho station. In his assault of Tycho Station he was able to secure the only remaining Protomolecule sample, killing Fred Johnson (Chad Coleman) in the process.
In episode 4 Amos Burton (Wes Chatham) remained on Earth, and went to visit Clarissa Mao in an underground U.N. Penitentiary for high risk prisoners who all have body modifications. Amos was in her cell with Peaches when the second rock hit not far from their location. Alex (Cas Anvar) and Bobbie Draper (Frankie Adams) are in pursuit of Admiral Sauveterre in the Barkeith. They are following in the Razorback (Screaming Firehawk), because they suspect him of smuggling weapons with Emily Babbage.
Naomi (Dominique Tipper) went to Pallas station, and was abducted by her son Filip Inaros (Jasai Chase Owens). He took her to his father’s ship the Pella where Marco revealed their attacks on Earth. In episode 4 of season 5 Naomi is a prisoner, and has the knowledge that her ex-lover and son have carried out a crime against humanity. Marco made a declaration of victory and claimed the attacks were in retaliation for years of atrocities against Belters from the Inners. He declared that the Free Navy now controls everything beyond the atmosphere of Earth and Mars including the Belt, the Ring Gates, and the Ring Worlds.
James Holden (Steven Strait) was on Tycho station when the Free Navy’s attack there took place. Holden and Fred had a plan to put Bull and team in the container where Monica was supposed to be. When the Zmeya arrived it turned out to be a part of the coordinated attack. Sakai was working as a mole, and ultimately murdered Fred Johnson. An attack robot drone retrieved the protomolecule from his quarters and it’s now in Belter's hands.
In ep. 4 Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo) and Delgado (Michael Irby) on Luna were unable to get anyone to listen to them about the stealth coated asteroids. They get through to Nancy Gao only to see her die as the third asteroid hits Earth’s surface. Avasarala cannot reach her husband Arjun, but there is some hope as the satellites now appear to be capable of stopping future attacks.
