【Fukuoka City "福岡市"】- It's my hometown. -

Fukuoka is located in the north of Kyushu "九州", the southernmost of the four major Japanese islands. It's often called Hakata "博多". About 1.5 million people live in Fukuoka city. Fukuoka has large population than any other in Kyushu.

Fukuoka is well known for its local food. Especially, Hakata-Ramen "博多ラーメン" is popular with tourist. Motsunabe "もつ鍋" is also famous local food of Fukuoka. It is a popular stew made with guts portions of various types of meat. Karashi-Mentaiko "辛し明太子", or spicy cod roe, is also known as a specialty of Fukuoka.

Fukuoka is home to many festivals. The most famous are Hakata-Dontaku "博多どんたく" and Hakata-Gion-Yamakasa "博多祇園山笠". The first town in the video is Tenjin "天神". The busiest town in Hakata-Dontaku. And Kushida Shinto Shrine "櫛田神社", the center of Hakata-Gion-Yamakasa, is also reflected in this video. (4:02)

Tocho-Temple "東長寺" is the first temple that Kukai "空海" (Kobo Daishi "弘法大師") built in Japan. Later, He attained enlightenment in Shikoku "四国" and went on to found esoteric Buddhism "密教" in Japan. The most renowned monk in Japan. (7:23)
