120Cr Scam Exposed with A Cost of Life. #democracy #life #indiandemocracy

On January 3, 2025, the body of 33-year-old freelance journalist Mukesh Chandrakar was discovered in a septic tank on a property owned by his cousin, contractor Suresh Chandrakar, in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. Mukesh had been missing since January 1, shortly after exposing alleged corruption in a ₹120 crore road construction project.

Investigations revealed that Mukesh was lured to the property by his cousins—Suresh, Ritesh, and Dinesh Chandrakar—along with an associate, Mahendra Ramteke. There, he was brutally attacked with iron rods, resulting in fatal injuries, and his body was concealed in a septic tank, which was then sealed with fresh concrete.

The motive behind the murder was Mukesh’s investigative reporting on substandard road construction, which led to a state inquiry and financial penalties for Suresh’s contracting business. A 1,200-page chargesheet has been filed against the accused, who are currently in custody.

Mukesh Chandrakar was known for his fearless journalism on his YouTube channel, ‘Bastar Junction,’ where he highlighted issues like corruption and local governance. His tragic death underscores the dangers faced by journalists in India, particularly those reporting on corruption in rural areas.
