R&S 469 As we are gathered. The first hymn is inspired by the Gospel reading - Matthew 18: 15-20. The bulk of the passage talks about the need to resolve differences between members of a congregation (more about that later!) but it also has the famous phrase telling us that "when two or three meet together in my name, I am there among them." This is comforting to smaller congregations but also a reminder that worshipping communities of Christ come in all shapes and sizes. This hymn is frequently used as an introit at the beginning of services to remind us that we meet in Christ's name and when we do so, we invite Jesus into our midst.
