Northeast India Connectivity Explained | Why the Region Is Still “Internally Locked” | Jitesh Khosla

In this session from the Assam Rifles–USI annual seminar, former Chief Secretary, Assam, Jitesh Khosla delivers a clear, no‑frills analysis of Northeast India’s most pressing challenge: the gap between improved links to the rest of India and the region’s “internally locked” reality.

Khosla unpacks how major rail, road, and bridge projects over the strategic “Chicken’s Neck” (Siliguri Corridor) have reduced isolation and boosted logistics, yet eight‑state integration remains hamstrung by rugged terrain, landslides, monsoon floods, and uneven infrastructure. He highlights how the region’s ethnic and security complexity—over 200 tribes, multiple insurgent histories, and reliance on CAPFs—adds extra layers to any development or connectivity plan.

Listen in as he connects these infrastructure and security realities to the Centre’s Act East Policy, showing how the Northeast can function as a land‑linked gateway to Southeast Asia.
