Gujarat reports first black fungus case in 15-year-old child, condition stable

The rapidly spreading Mucormycosis or black fungus is now affecting children. In Gujarat, a 15-year-old child was found to be infected with Mucormycosis. The boy is undergoing treatment at Apple Children's Hospital in Ahmedabad. Paediatric doctor Abhishek Bansal said, "A boy was admitted to our hospital with Covid symptoms and later tested positive. The 15-year-old was discharged after successfully recovering from Covid-19 in April. A week after recovery, he again developed some symptoms and was re-admitted. The boy was then diagnosed with Mucormycosis and is currently stable. He had to undergo an operation and will be discharged in the next three days. This is the first case of paediatric Mucormycosis in Ahmedabad.” Cases of Mucormycosis have emerged in patients who are in the recovery phase of Covid. Doctors say surge in black fungus cases may be linked to the rapid use of steroids.
