Snow hike in Tsugaike Nature Park (栂池自然公園) - Summit to Mt. Hakubanorikura (白馬乗鞍岳) / 8,000’ (2,436m)

Heaven on earth! I went for a snow hike in Tsugaike Nature Park (栂池自然公園), trekking up (direct approach) to Mt. Hakubanorikura (白馬乗鞍岳) / 2,436m (8,000 ft). Tsugaike Nature Park is located in Hakuba mountain range in Nagano prefecture, which is part of the northern Japan Alps. Hakuba is a world-class ski destination and hosted the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics.

Note:
When you go for a snow hike, please do so at your own risk. Due to the snow, there are no actual trails (they’re buried under the snow!) to follow and travel by. Therefore, you must do route finding as you go and return. Check weather and avalanche conditions in advance, and better equipped with basic gear and other must-haves for the snow hike. Also, it's important to respect your ability and know your limits, following through basic protocols and rules for hiking and mountaineering. The mountain’ll be always there, so be wise to turn around based on contingencies. It’s not the mountain you conquer, but yourself. Stay safe and happy hiking!

Date hiked: May 5, 2024
