4 things I learnt stitching this practice piece: 🧡🪡☺️
4 things I learnt stitching this practice piece: 🧡🪡☺️
1 - Layered fabric: frayed edges are a real thing! I found the edges all frayed and needed to be dealt with, which ended up being the bulk of the stitching time on this pattern. No so cool.
2 - Sticky tape: not a great option for temporarily holding your second layer of fabric in place. Because when you peel it off, it makes the fraying way worse, gah!
3 - Short satin stitch: Due to above, I did a border of short satin stitch the whole way around the fabric edges…not so fun! I usually avoid big sections of super short satin stitch and this reminded me why, ha!
4 - Raised satin stitch: now that was cool! I did this technique on the handle, and it was a lot easier and more effective than I anticipated.
So there you have it - lots of learning and progress on this test piece for me! I definitely want to experiment more with layered cotton fabrics (appliqué) because I absolutely love the result! But I definitely want to improve and learn more enjoyable ways of doing it, before it makes its way into any patterns.
I hope you found this a useful little insight into what I learn when I’m testing new ideas.
