PREVIEW: Great Museums: Elevated Thinking: The High Line in New York City

Since 1998, GREAT MUSEUMS' call to action has been: "Find the museum in your own backyard." A perfect example is New York City's High Line. Recycled from a defunct elevated railroad, today's High Line is a fantastic world of woodlands, thickets, prairies and meadows - floating thirty feet in the air - through 22 blocks of Manhattan. Like the railroad it replaced, the public park rises above busy streets and runs in one side of buildings and out the other, as it winds its way from the historic Meatpacking neighborhood through the Chelsea Art District to Hudson Yards.

Narrated by Oscar™ award winning actress Susan Sarandon, "GREAT MUSEUMS: Elevated Thinking: The High Line in New York City" details the remarkable efforts of a group of neighborhood activists, real estate developers, philanthropists and city officials and the architects, designers, and landscapers who created this model of urban imagination. Also featured are up-close looks at some of the High Line's special places and of the people who call this area home.
