MOTO MYTH BUSTERS - THE FUEL SYSTEM
In today’s episode we take an end to end, soup to nuts look at the complete fuel system on any 150-501 injected KTM, Husqvarna, or Husaberg including the 250/300 two stroke machines.
there's so many myths and misunderstandings out there about what these components are, how they work and what the problem areas could be.
this show will take a look at all of those parts and how they work together, how to ensure the correct functionality of the system, tools you can use for service and trouble shooting.
One myth not mentioned in the video is if you run the tank low of fuel the pump will overheat and burn up as the gas cools the motor.
Myth. The design of the pressure bypass return flow intentionally sprays this fuel over the pump to cool it.
We have an in-house way we handle fuel system maintenance and it goes a little something like this:
*replace in tank filter on new bikes at 30 hours to wix
*replace all unknown age filters to wix
*replace all wix at 100-125 hours
*replace all pumps and regulators as a maintenance item at 250-300
*we use cal cycle works Ducati race pumps as our pump and regulator of choice
*install Golan under tank quick disconnect filter on all bikes. Clean every 75 hours or so
*clean injector every 75-100 hours or so
*treat gas w Techron additive a coupe times a year
*its essential to know fuel pressure when chasing any drivability / performance issue. Make or buy a ktm specific in line fuel pressure gauge.
We’ve been running this program on our fleet and customers bikes now for almost 2 years w no break downs.
Time will tell.
