⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Amtrak's "American View" Viewliner Inspection Car

Before the production of the Viewliner I cars commenced, two prototype sleeper cars were built to trial technologies that would later be used for the production cars. Both of these cars were rebuilt into company inspection cars in the 2010's. In March 2014, number 2301 (which had been renumbered to 62091 and renamed Eastern View)was converted into an inspection car, and 10004 was renumbered and given the name American View.

This inspection car has rear-facing seats and a large glass window at the end that allows passengers to observe the tracks. American View is used by maintenance crews to visually inspect the tracks for defects and by the Amtrak president and other executives for official purposes. Here we see this car on the rear of Amtrak's Vermonter service, on its way north to New Haven. Enjoy!
