SasuNaru fanfiction: Naruto and Sasuke kiss accidentally AGAIN?!

Naruto was glad for Sasuke's presence and stayed by his side as they searched the next room. They found half-dilapidated books and broken research objects, just like in the entrance area. But there was no sign of the diary, so they moved on. The deeper they went into the building, the more overgrown the windows were and the darker the rooms became.

They were just entering the second room when there was a rustling in the semi-darkness. Naruto squeaked and jumped to Sasuke. Whatever it was was rustling towards them, coming closer and closer ...

A few rats appeared in the half-shadow and rushed past them.

Naruto's heart raced in his chest. He would have loved to follow the rodents out of here.

"Are you all right, scaredy-cat?"
Sasuke's teasing voice made Naruto look up. Only now did he realize how close they were. Sasuke had put his arm around him and Naruto pressed himself against him. He blushed and pouted, but didn't break away from his friend. He felt warm and safe.

„You won’t be laughing once the ghosts take a bite out of you,“ he mumbled, causing Sasuke to chuckle.

He released Naruto's hand but kept his arm around his shoulder. Naruto felt him form hand signs, and seconds later, small lights floated from Sasuke's fingertips to spread throughout the room. They lit up the corners, crawled under leaves and made the dust in the air glow.
"Like fireflies," Naruto marveled with wide eyes.

Sasuke shrugged his shoulders humbly. "An Uchiha technique. It helps to light up the room without setting anything on fire."

"I didn't think your people would come up with something so pretty," Naruto teased, turning his face to Sasuke with a grin. The latter had a warm smile on his lips. Lips that were very close to Naruto's. For whatever reason he noticed that very distinctly.

"Are you feeling better?" Sasuke asked.

"Yes," Naruto replied somewhat meekly.

Naruto broke away from Sasuke and stepped up to a half-collapsed shelf. He pulled out this and that old book without really concentrating on it. His senses were focused on Sasuke, who had stepped up to the massive desk. His scent seemed to have lingered on Naruto like rain on fresh greenery.

"I might have found something."

Sasuke's voice snapped Naruto out of his thoughts to the point where he nearly knocked over the shelf. Sasuke watched his struggle with the rotten boards questioningly. Finally, Naruto pushed one last plank into the contraption and stepped to the desk.

He laughed nervously and pointed at the open book in front of Sasuke. "That?"

"Yes," Sasuke said. He seemed to decide not to say anything to Naruto's interlude. Instead, he tapped the yellowed page.

"These are records of 'Subject H from U'. She displayed great binding abilities with which she hoped to succeed in the 'ultimate summoning'."

"That must be the girl Aoba told me about!" concluded Naruto and Sasuke nodded. Naruto's excitement quickly turned to confusion. "But... how does she help us find the children?"
"Maybe they wrote something about the entrances to the research facilities. And..."

Sasuke fell silent and turned his face away as Naruto looked at him questioningly. "She was an Uzumaki, wasn't she? I thought you'd be interested to know more about her."

Naruto was surprised. He felt his cheeks grow warm and a smile spread across his features. "Thank you, Sasuke."

Sasuke opened his mouth to say something when a rumble shattered the silence. Naruto snatched up; he was firmly convinced that the spirits of the prisoners had risen and would eat them as punishment for disturbing their sleep.

A jolt went through the rotten wood of the table and it gave way under their weight. Naruto waved his arms to gain his balance, but it was too late. Together with Sasuke, he crashed to the floor.

Fortunately, his face smacked against something soft. Something that nestled warmly against his lips. Something that didn't feel so bad.

He opened his eyes to find out what it was - and his soul left his body as he stared directly into Sasuke's mismatched eyes.
