According to authorities in Escambia County, the pilot reported a burning smell in the cockpit and experienced engine failure. Realizing they could not safely make it to a nearby airport, the pilot and a flight student navigated the aircraft down onto the highway, miraculously gliding mere feet under a large green highway sign before safely touching down in the empty lanes. Thankfully, no one was injured during the terrifying ordeal, though the landing did cause significant traffic backups throughout the morning.
