Dame Mary Beard, DBE, FSA, FBA, FRSL is arguably the most well-known Classicist today. Mary Beard (as she is known worldwide) is a trustee of the British Museum and recently retired from a professorship of Classics at the University of Cambridge. She is a fellow of Newnham College, Cambridge, and Royal Academy of Arts Professor of Ancient Literature.
Mary Beard is the classics editor of The Times Literary Supplement, where she writes her blog, "A Don's Life". She has made several documentaries and hosted several shows for BBC. The New Yorker characterises her as "learned but accessible".
